Another Monday, another demonstration

It seems the situation in Khartoum is not going to calm down any time soon. Today the opposition collation went down to the streets, again, to protest against the delay in passing legislations related to next national election coming up this April.

BBC Arabic service radio interviewed Mariam Al Sadiq, The daughter of Umma party leader, who was arrested by government security forces. She stated that all paper work required for the demonstration was made. according to her, the law only require organizers to alert official of demonstration but not to wait for their approval. she even quoted a section of the constitution to prove her point. Around 38 people were arrested today according to Sudanile.com

Pagan Amom(SPLM) confirmed his party participation in today’s demonstration, despite an agreement reached with National Congress Party(NCP) yesterday!

While the stand of the opposition parties is clear, the position of SPLM kind of strange. It is a part of the unity government, while having total control of southern Sudan, but it plays a major role in the opposition movement. It seems it using these parties as mean for a goal which is independence of south Sudan, and it is using opposition as a way to pressure its partner.

This represent a change away from its late leader Dr. Garang who had a vision of one secular democratic nation.

I guess opposition parties have realised that they are on their own now and they can not depend on SPLM any more. They have no choice but to continue demonstration till free speech related laws are changed.

Quick Joke:
Today in Alwatan newspaper stated that NCP supporters were not giving the approval for demonstration. The reason was “security concerns”…….. What a joke!

I am Sudanese and I have the DNA to prove it!!!

Girifna!

I know everyone now is concerned with referendum and likely separation of south Sudan but let us go back to the election period and have a look on this video. Recently there has been this movement called “Girifna” which in Arabic means “we are fed up”, I know it sounds strange that one world translate into three worlds in English. Since the aftermath of the election the movement seems to be getting weaker and lost momentum! i guess it was inspired by arising hope of change and the possibility that there will be a new face for Sudan politics, but the hope was shattered by the announcement of Bashir victory. Sudan: History of a Broken Land

This is a good documentary about Sudan before the separation of the south from the north. it was aired by Al-Jazeera English almost more than a year ago. it just showed how politicians messed up Sudan for the coming generations. I would say it is relevant to current situation as we as Sudanese are repeating the same mistakes but now in Darfur , Kurdofan , and Blue Nile . Al Sadiq is right about one thing, the north has to apologies for associating salivary with the degree of blackness.
